Connecting to company VPN 1

Hello, I am new to this so pls bare with me
I was given my company VPN address and I created VPN connection from home. Everything is fine, I was able to establich the connection, but what's next?
After I login to VPN from home all I get is a prompt that I am connected. Should't I see my work desktop or something as if I was using Remote Descktop?
I never used VPN and don't know if I have to install any tools or do something after I establish connection

How you connected to the VPN will determine what is necessary upon connecting. If you use a software package like a CISCO VPN Client, Checkpoint SecurRemote, or Nortel Contivity Client, then you're going to require the use of other tools to remote control your desktop. The abilities or what you can and cannot do are controlled by your VPN guru and I would ask him what is is you need to do at this point.

You're successfully connected, but what's allowed going forward from here could be anything ...

So remote desktop does nto happen automatically after I VPN, thats what I needed to know. From what I understand I might need to install other tools to remote desktop to my work PC via VPN, right?

Exactly ...

For example. I offer two types of VPN's to my end users. One is a software based installation as mentioned earlier. The other is of an SSL Variety in which the user authenticates to the network using a web browser at which time they're present (in the web browser) with shortcuts to applications and/or remote desktop connections of their machine.
