Here's my problem I have a windows 2000 server machine and a Windows XP home ed. I am trying to share files between them my Windows xp can connect to the 2000. But every time I try to go from the 2000 to XP it asks me for a user name and password. I have tried every account in my XP machine, and even created new ones still nothing works. This is a home office so I need no passwords. Is there a way to disable this so I can connect to my XP machine.

Help whats my problem

1) Have you tried creating an account on the XP machine, with an identical userid and password as the one whihc you are logged on with on the 2000 machine?

2) When typing in the userid (when it asks for it to access the xp box) are you typing in PCNAME\Userid? or just Userid?

3) Have you tried enabling the guest account?

Is the server a domaincontroller ?
If YES:
1) Create a user on the domain
if NO:
1) create a user on the server
2) Create a share with sharing permission set to everyone - Full control
3) change security from folder to the created user - read / write or full control (whatever is needed)
4) on the XP-client, try to reconnect the share
5) use password and username like:
user@domain - password or domain\user - password
in case of a domain
servername\user - password
in case of a not DC

This should work

You can also try this:
on the xp-client
click start - run
type cmd - click ok
at the command prompt
type net use \\server\ipc$ /user:server\administrator
you will be prompted for a password
give the server's admin password
Now you can connect all the shares without being asked for a password
