Connecting to an access-db via ole (jet4.0) using UNC-Paths

Hello.

I have a report (CR85) that is based on an access-db. the connection method is OLE (Microsoft Jet4.0 OLE DB) and I'm using UNC for the pathname.

Executing and running the report on my client works, but there's a problem running the same report on the enterprise server (CE85), saying that the sql-server cannot be opened.

So I guess it has something to do with user-rights (server-side) or something like that.
We tried to map the path identically on client and server, but it didn't work. Neither does it when directly using UNC-paths without mapping.

Any ideas ? Do we have to change some settings on the enterprise server?

thanks in advance!

Hi,
You need to assure that the CE Servers ( especially the Page Server) are running under an account that has the needed permissions on the UNC'd location...See the docs about how to set the RUN AS part of the server services..It is done in the CCM after stopping the service...

turkbear,
I forwarded your suggestion to our admin. He said, he has now changed the user-account running the servers but unfortunately this doesn't seem to have any effect.
any other ideas ? we don't have any restrictions implemented in the database so connecting should be possible via admin/(no password) or even without a username. :-(

turkbear,

we finally succeeded after reconfiguring the jobserver instead of the page server.

again, thanks a lot for your help!

Hi,
The jobserver handles scheduled reports, while view-on-demand and view existing instances are
handled by the cache and page servers...( The input and output servers are also involved, especially if their files are on a separate file server)
It is not a bad idea to create an account for ALL the CE servers to run as, and to use this account ( which should not be one a user can log in with) to handle permissions, etc

Glad you got it going...
