When trying to set up a database connection in VB6 to a paradox table all seems to work OK and the connection tests OK, but when opening the "tables" folder in the data view window, no tables are listed, and an ADO error is returned.

Does anyone know what I've done wrong??

Thanks
Chris

Chris,

Dunno; what's the error?

If you're using MDAC 2.6, you'll need the Borland Database Engine to open Paradox 7 tables or later.

Also, just because a file says it's a DB file doesn't mean it's a Paradox file.

We really need more diagnostic information.

The table is a paradox table as I also have paradox on this machine and can open it without any problems. I also have the Borland database engine installed.

The error I receive says:-

ADO Error -2147188723

Thanks

Chris,

I can't locate any information on that specific error. At this point, I can only suggest verifying that you're using the latest version of BDE (5.1.1, as of this writing).

Use the BDE Administrator in Control Panel to check your BDE version; however, do *NOT* use that utility's Help | About dialog to do so. Help | About *ONLY* reports the utility version, not the version of the actual BDE DLL files.

For instructions on getting the actual version of your BDE DLL's, please see:

The steps are somewhat involved and, having written them once, I'm a bit lazy about retyping them. :)

If that doesn't resolve it, I would check MS's ADO documentation on MSDN, though I confess that seems a bit limited. Be aware that something seems a little odd on MS's site; some of their scripts seem broken.)

Hope this helps...
