I am using novell 4.11 server with 4 workstation in my office for 6 years. I don't know much about novel but it works.

Now we add another office in a remote location and created a VPN to connect the two location. I can ping from one location to another even they are on a seperate sub networks e.g. 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.1.1

However when i try to find the tree or the context from the remote office I can't.

Can 4.11 support this functionality?
can anyone direct me to a web page tutorial on how to do it?

You cannot use IP to connect to a NetWare 4.x server, NetWare 4.x only supports IPX connections. Even if the NetWare 4.x server is configured with an IP address, you can still only connect to it via IPX

Can IPX work over different subnetworks?

Or

Do I need to upgrade the server?

You will need IPX configured on your network switches/routers which may cause you infrastructure issues. Upgrading to NetWare 6.5 might be the easier option :)

Not to mention that if your money is tight, you can get a 5 user version of Novell Small Biz Suite 6.6 for free. Drop me a line and I'll send you a link to where you can download everything.

IPX Does work on different subnets. It's extremely routable and in fact, that's how everybody did things for years. But with IP the standard now, there isn't much use for IPX. SO most devices don't even support it.
