We have an HP895Cse connected to an NT 4.0 workstation.
Which port do I use in Windows 2000 Pro to connect to it?
I tried adding a TCP/IP but I'm not sure what the port name is and what the printer name is.
It does not let me explore it
If I find the printer in network neighborhood it does not like the drivers I downloaded off the internet either.

I used this
Port \\admin06 ' the name of the Workstion is "admin06"
Printer share is HP DeskJet 895Cse.
We can connect to it just fine in other NT4 Workstations

TIA

On the WinNT Workstation you need to SHARE the printer. Then you can connect to it you will not need TCP/IP to connect. Just type in the share name then the printer name (You specify it when you share it) Example:
On the Winnt Workstation-\\(computer name)\(printername).
You should be able to just go to My network Places then go to the workstation PC then right click on the shared printer and install, this will also work. If you need help ask. James Collins

I know how to set up the share its been shared for 1-1/2 years now.
The problem is telling a Windows 2000 Pro PC what port to use to connect to that share on a NT4 workstaion.
there are 3 choices. 1. TCP/IP 2. local and 3. make a new port
I know the general jist of the problem but it is not working and HP wants me to pay casue the printer is older than one year.

\\admin06\hp deskjet 895C
does not work
I need someone who knows Windows 2000 Pro side of the equation
I'm certifed in NT 4.0 Workstation and Server now.

I don't know W2K though....

Doug,

Install these drivers off HP's web site on the NT box, the upgraded drivers should work with 2000.

If 2000 still says no, when you get the incompatible driver message W2K should open the driver pick list. The 895C is included in the OEM driver bundle under HP.
