I am trying to connect a new computer to our domain. The computer is running Windows Vista & when I try to connect to the domain I get the message, 'windows can not find an account for your computer in the domain' I have already created the computer on the domain so do not see why I get this mesaage, is this because a specific user account is not associated with the computer?

After this I enter the computer domain as requested and it returns the error 'an attempt to resolve the DNS name of a DC in the domain being joined has failed. Please verify this client is configured to reach a DNS server that can resolve DNS names in the target domain.

I have never seen this problem before in XP, anybody any ideas?

Which version of Vista are you using? Only Vista business and Ultimate editions are allowed to be added to a domain.

Cheers
Rob

The answer is always "PEBKAC!

Also make sure the computer's TCP/IP settings match those of the Domain.

You'll need an administrator user and password from the domain to join the computer to it.

Ignorance is not necessarily Bliss, case in point:
Unknown has caused an Unknown Error on Unknown and must be shutdown to prevent damage to Unknown.

I was using Vista business & the tcp/ip settings were set the same as the domain.

I have actually just downgraded to XP pro as it was causing too much hassle.

Thanks for your ideas
