All the users / user classes used in our series 7 installation are held in a Netscape Directory Server.
Anyone know how to connect ReportNet to this source so that I can apply user and user class based filter restrictions within framework manager ?

Think the connections defined in configuration manager on the ReportNet server, however not sure which of the settings need to be changed to get this going.

I got as far as getting the namespace available in a list in framework manager, but as yet no user classes (like in the standard 'Cognos' namespace) suggesting the config's wrong. (?)

I've added the namespace to config manager and entered the Namespace Id, Host / port and Base DN & chaged the user lookup to (uid=($userID) and applied, but no joy yet.

Use a Series 7 authentication provider. You will not be able to use a regular LDAP provider to connect to the Series 7 schema due to all of the attribute changes.
Why the objection to using the Series 7 provider?

Isn't Netscape Directory server = iplanet = Sun One directory server depending on which bit of the globe you live in (?)

If not, what would you call a series 7 authentication provider ? Are you saying that Netscape Directory server (provided on the supplimentary software disk with PPES 7.0) is not a supported LDAP source for ReportNet ?

Users / User classes within the Directory server are accessable through Access manager as per usual, however we rarely maintain anything this way as there are too many of 'em and they change frequently so all updates are automated and run overnight. We'd rather not change the LDAP server as this automation process would need to change as well.

Yes, Netscape directory Server is a supported source for Reportnet .
The point is that Cognos is adding its own objects to the LDAP schema, so Access Manager is not anymore a standard LDAP.

When adding your Access Manager definition to Reportnet Cognos Configuration , you have to select as a source type "Cognos series 7" when creating a new ressource for Authentication so Reportnet knows that there are some Cognos specific objects included in this LDAP.

Flex13 is also right.

Ok - misunderstanding on my part on some of the jargon :)

All working now, once I'd logged off anonymous access in framework manager and logged back into the new namespace.

Many Thanks.
