Connecting Outlook to LDAP/Active Directory

I have just installed a new Windows Server 2003 forest/domain. I am really new to AD.

Everything is running smoothly so now I want to add a few frills.

I'd like our POP3 Outlook users be able to use the LDAP/Active Directory to get users email addresses.

For the Search Base I put in dc=ppa,dc=packhome,dc=com (my forest/domain is ppa.packhome.com). When I try to use the address book is says Invalid Search Base.

So I add the container that the users are in ou=boston,dc=ppa,dc=packhome,dc=com - still get the same Invalid Search Base.

What I am I supposed to be doing on the server that will allow Outlook to connect? Is my Search Base all wrong? Is there something I need to do to the Schema to get this to work?

I have tried this with my server needs authentication and without - if I try to put in authentication it has a bit of a fit and then says my Search base is invalid - so it's not about authenticating.

I've got a simular problem but only with Outlook 2000 clients. XP / 2003 Outlook works fine. Try leaving the search base blank and use a domain control as the server to search - use the users email address and domain pwd to validate.
