connecting outlook 2001 to exchange 5.5

Hi there - i've got Mac os X, with outlook 2001 connecting to an exchange 5.5 server.

I can print to networked printers, access shares on the NT server, but when i try and connect to the exchange server for outlook 2001 - either through ip address or name, it keeps saying can't connect when i test the settings.

Could you please give me an idea what could be wrong - i heard OS X has a firewall on it, could this be the issue?

can you ping the server by name and ip address?

I did get the same problem. If you need to use the shared calender feature...stick with Outlook. If not, I would recommend you use Entourage, its far more stable.

Use IMAP settings and make sure you have the domain and IP address 'spot on'

Thanks a lot for the info guys - the details are exactly as they should be. But when i try to ping to server it can't actually resolve the name.

When i ping the ip address - it finds the server no problem.

I checked, and some websites say i have to add the hosts file - but do you know where i can add it - i've looked everywhere and can't find it to configure the OS X to use the hosts file.

Just thought i'd let you all know - managed to get it working.

The issue was the fact that the mac couldn't resolve the name to an ip address - so got this from mac website:

Even though it's OS X 10.2.3 - you can configure using the /applications/utilities/netinfo manager - don't have to touch the hosts files (if it even exists).

Outlook and internet connect straight away - no fuss.
