Hello, i am trying to figure out how to get an excel spreadsheet attached too a report. Report works off of the inventory class - which connects to the excel scpread sheet column A.

However whenever I try to link the inventory table (inventory class code) there in no connections.
(the inventory table class 100 does not seem to connect to the excel table column A - which is also class. However, the excel table data always shows 100.00 - which i have not been able to change ... and the allow paretial text does no good. *CRv8

do yo uhaappend to hve some info that may help

Is the "inventory class" a NUMBER in your Report Database...?

You can only match the same types. If it's a NUMBER in your EXCEL - but a STRING in your Database, you can't link them.

EXCEL isn't a great method of sourcing data for a report.

No, the inventory class is VARCHAR(10).

I have been trying to format the excel column to TEXT - but it still appears as a number when I try to link in the CR.

Right, I realize excel isnt the best method ... but things being as they are .. this list is maintained in this excel sheet - and it would save alot of effort just to link to the sheet for this one report

do you have a work around hint, that may do the trick?
alias? CSV/TXT option?

and thank you very much, for your help.

I believe if you use a text value in your column heading for the Excel values, CR will interpret the column as text.

LB thank you for your comment.

My column heading is "CODE" - is there some range name or other that needs to be applied to make it "stick?

thanks millet - - that seemed to do the trick
(option 3- data-convrt to text)
when I linked the excel table it recognied it as text.
i'll have to work on the length next (255) - but it was very helpul ... and i learned someting new. thx

well - it appears that now the length (text 255) is the issue at hand. I cannot seem to get the CR to add the database field with a length other than text 255.

i'll keep on trying different manipulations of the excel column - and if i get a better result will post it.

thanks to all
