Hi!

something curious,

I am connecting my inspiron 9200 to a pc with a patch cable (not a crossover cable) and it's working perfectly, I can share files, copy, paste, explore, etc.

How is this possible, if I am not using a crossover cable? It is not absolutely necessary use a crossover cable to connect pc to pc?

inspiron = windows xp professional, broadcom 440x 10/100 integrated controller
pc= windows 2000 professional, PCI 3Com EtherLink XL 10/100

some comments?

Some modern (mostly 1000/100/10 capable) chipsets can do auto-polarity checking and remove the need for crossovers. this is true both in Switches and NICs

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

Maybe that is happening, because i try with another cables (patch cables, crossover cables) and all work perfectly

thanks for your help!
