HI Can someone please help, this is driving my crazy....

Im trying to connect an IBM Thinkpad 570E (Win 98) to my PC (Win XP). I want to be able to transfer data and upgrade it to XP. The laptop has no disk drive or cd rom, it has a network card which has two different sizes of connection, rectangle and square. On the back it has a square phone connection and three ports, printer and 2 others plus a connection for an external disk.

The PC has just about every connection known to man, it is on broadband and so a network cable runs from the pc to the external cable modem (Motorola SB4100)which aslo has a small USB connection.

As you can tell I havn't a clue how to set this up, if someone knows could they please inform me what cables i need and what exactly i need to do with each computer to complete the connection, the more info the better as I am really lost at the moment.

ANY suggestions will be greatly, hugely, enormously appreciated!!!!

Thank
You

Jay

It does have a hard drive, a 12GB hard drive. I think you meant it has no floppy or CD rom. Which could be true since it has 2 bays that you can interchange things so its possible to have 2 batteries and no drives.

The only way to upgrade it to XP would be to put the XP CD into the PC and share the CD drive. Then network the laptop to the PC either with an ethernet hub or direct cable connection, map the drive, then run the setup program on the CD from the laptop. You better copy the XP CD entirely onto the laptop's hard drive as well since its gonna try and find the data after rebooting, but the network share wont be there.

Of course win98 and XP dont like to talk to each other as it is (XP sees win98 but not vice versa) so that might not even work. Your best bet is to get on ebay and find yourself a CD drive for one of your bays.
