In a couple of weeks I will be heading back to school. I have heard that they are putting ethernet connections in the rooms, 10baseT. Now, my question I have a windows 98 machine that I would like to connect to my linux box via a 10baseT or BNC network. I want the linux box to be connected to the schools network and have my win98 hide behind it, as well as share files with it.

I have had redhat 6 setup on a p100 w/ 32 Mb of ram and a 4 gb hdrive. I ended up using that drive in my win98 box. So I am going to be setting up linux on that machine, fresh, on a 1.2 Gb hdrive. IN two months or so I will probably get a 10 or 20 Gb drive for the linux box. IN addition to the linux acting as a gateway, I also want it to act as an ftp/webserver. I would like to know ( I don't need too much detail, basically all I need to now is the names of the programs and devices so that I can look them up in the help files and manuals):

what needs to be installed on linux in order to do this? And is it all included with RH6?

what partitions should I have and how should they be named as well as how should the space be allocated?

do i have to reinstall linux to get a new bigger hardrive to work, or can I simple partition it?

Can any body point me to some documents on security issues with this type of setup?

Some things that I may have forgotten to mention: With this type of setup, is win98 able to surf the web transperently through the linux gateway? Is linux also able to map drives from my win98 box to the linux ftp server, espeshially cdroms?

I am very familiar with win98 and to some degree networking with it. What I would like to see in an answer is shorts answers to the questions ( I don't want to have to make anybody type a novel) a simple link to a page that already deals with the issue would suffice.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can answer my questions.
