I have a dsl connection that connects to a Linksys RV082 router that connects to a Cisco 24 port switch. I am trying to connect a 2nd router to the switch but cannot get a connection.

So, is it possible to get this setup to work? Is there a trick to it that I am not getting?

Thanks, eli

Disable DHCP on the second router.
Connect using a cable from the switch to a regular LAN port on the second router, not the WAN port.
You likely will need to use a cross-over cable.

Hi bcastner,

I followed your advice and it worked to a T.

For anyone else out there that might need help with this here is what I did with the 2nd router.

Used a cross-over cable to connect the switch to one of the ports on the 2nd router.

Used a patch cable in another port on the 2nd router to connect to the patch panel.

Thanks a lot for the help bcastner. You saved me a lot of time. Do you know why a cross-over cable is required?

Thanks, eli

The weird thing about this setup is that the 2 computers that I have hooked up to the 2nd router can still add network printers that they shouldn't be able to see. Also when I went to My Network Places (on one of the computers that is isolated from the main network) and clicked on 'View Network Computers' all of the Shared Documents folders from the main network were listed. (which is not what I wanted) After I deleted all of the shared Documents folders from the list they did not "reappear". I just thought that this was kinda strange.
