connecting 2 wireless networks

I have a linksys WRT54G at my cousins house hooked up to a TNC antenna stand with the 7db antennas, this is mounted in his front window. Across the street at our friends house we get a fairly good signal in the living room(54Mbs/signal good) and a little weaker in his room(36Mbs/signal low).

I purchased a WAP54G and put in the window and have it setup but for some reason when it connects to the WAP54G it isnt getting a IP address from the WRT54G> I tried setting the IP up manually but that didnt help.
