Connecting 2 switches

Whats the best way to connect 2 24 port switches, unmanaged? IS there a rule to follow? or can any port from first switch connect to any port on the 2nd switch?

used to be last port to first port new switches I don't believe it matters

If they have uplink ports use one of them. If they are auto MDI-MDIX you can use a straight through cable on any port.
If there is no uplink and no auto MDI-MDIX, use a crossover cable.

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.
