Hi,

A friend of mine recently built a house and had two network points put in, connected to each other with straight Cat5 cable. He wants to connect 2 PC's directly to each other. We have tried connecting with cross-over cables, straight through, and different combinations of these on the 2 PC's but the network cards don't even detect they're connected. Will we be able to connect them this way or will we need to put in a mini hub/switch?

Thanks!

Should work with one crossover and one straight patch cord.

Put the boxes close enough that the crossover will reach and make sure that it works that way, otherwise you may spend a lot of time troubleshooting a non-exixtant problem.
