Hi

I have 2 linksys products, a BEFVP41 router and a WRT54G router. I'm trying to connect my wireless PC's these 2 products, so that I can access the internet etc...

At the moment I can when I use the WRT54G product only. But when I add in the VPN router it doesn't work.

I've changed the settings on the WRT54G router so its a router only and not a gateway, changed its LAN IP, connected the two products as directed by the Linksys tech support. After which however I lose the internet connection.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Anything would be appreciated.

Make the BEFVP41 the primary; the WRT54G will be treated as a routing access point.

1. Connect your internet connection to the BEFVP41, enable DHCP and Gateway mode. Set your internet settings.

2. Connect directly to the WRT54G and disable DHCP. Set it to router instead of Gateway, and give it a static IP of 192.168.1.2, subnet 255.255.255.0, with a Gateway address the IP of the BEFVP41 (usually 192.168.1.1). Enter your SSID, WEP and other settings.

3. Connect from the Uplink (not WAN) port on the WRT54G to a normal LAN port on the BEFVP41.

You wireless clients will obtain an IP from the DHCP service on the BEFVP41, their Gateway address will be that of the BEFVP41.

Thanks bcastner

But thats exactly what I did, and it didn't work.

Anything else I should try?

much appreciated.

Post here the ipconfig /all results from a workstation that cannot get on the internet.

Also, check a wired connection to make sure it can get on the internet through the BEFVP41.

But I want to see the TCP/IP stats from a wireless connection through the WRT54G.

BTW,

Are the link lights on for the connection the WRT54G makes on the BEFVP41, both sides?

Power off the WRT54G. Do a reset of the BEFVP41. Then power on the WRT54G. We want the BEFVP41 stable before hit with the WRT54G connection.

It is best that you set this up with no active connections other than one wired connection.

I would like to see you at firmware 1.45 on the BEFVP41, and 1.30.7 on the WRT54G. Please advise if you are using earlier firmware.

I'll try and post this info as soon as possible, I need to setup the routers again to get the info. thanks.

Remember to use a straight-thru regular patch cable and not a cross-over for this connection.

The company decided to go with a different option so we removed the BEFVP41 with a Nortel box. Everything is up and running now.

thanks for all your help and suggestions.
