Hi,

I am new to MAC and would like to find out how to connect a Windows XP system to the Airport base station. The XP system detects a different wifi zone in the area, but does not detect the Airport wifi at all?

Do I need some kind of MAC client on the XP system in order to detect it? or must I add it manually?

Thanks,

Julian

No, you don't need a mac client. WiFi is WiFi.

What you need is to find out the security settings for the Airport network. It sounds to me like the Airport isn't broadcasting it's SSID - which means no machine, Mac or Windows, can see it or join it unless they already know its name.

Turning off the SSID is step 0 in securing a WiFi network.

Thanks,

I will have to try get into the airport device from one of the systems that have already got the settings. Incentally, another MAC system also wont detect the airport device. (Must be that it also needs to be manually configured)

Mac has a Wifi config tool which allows you to connect to the base station, but it prompts for a password and caues crap when I try and connect.

Will read up on it and see if I can get in and enable the SSID broadcast.

Thanks,

Julian
