Folks,

I am trying to connect to an Magix system. We follow the steps in connecting to the remote site, configure the modem speed to 2400, manual setup, get modem tone from an analog set connected into the dial-up modem, get prompted with the password (which we enter the default and will not reveal as it is all over tek-tips) and then get a disconnected prompt.

Is there a step or configuration we're missing?

the system that you are trying to connect too is what release ?

you may need to upgrade your SPM

9 times out of 10 the problem is the type of line you are dialing from or to.

If a VOIP Line is involved in the mix, it's always been a NO GO for me.

Do you know what type of lines are involved?

Well, your title says you have winspm r5 which you will need to upgrade to connect to a Magix system. I would go all the way to R9, which is the last release. then you can connect to any version of magix.

Thank you for the responses. We will try upgrading to the latest WinSPM software.

Merlinman - we're using a copper line to dial out on.

I dunno if the latest version of WinSPM will help, but here it is:
As Jack (Merlinman) suggested, if there's a VoIP or other voice-compressed connection somewhere in the middle, then your modem will be unhappy.

Consider dropping the DCE rate to 1200 rather than 2400 bps and make sure CAPS LOCK is not on.

Also make sure that you don't have other software running that might reveal problems with WinSPM...like the fact that the child window (shows download and/or report progress) isn't jeopardized. WinSPM is broken in certain ways. It works best if you pretend to be stupid and that it's the only software in the world. You may have to ALT+TAB to get back to the child window.
