I have a windows 2000 machine that's running RRAS. There is an external modem connected to it. My windows machines can connect to it with CHAP authentication.

Now is there an external party that wants to connect with there unix machine. They connect and i see that there username is correct but my log say they use a wrong password.

Does someone have an idea if there are special settings to be made on a windows machine so unix can connect to it.

Thanks for you help

The two typically don't use a common encryption routine. So, see if you can disable the requirement of "Use encrypted passwords" on the Windows end.
I think you'll find some help by reviewing the "Local Security Policies".

This is just a guess. I hope it points you in the right direction, but I haven't tried what you are doing.

It can work because our former machine was working with how i described it above. The authentication was CHAP.

Problem is i didn't document something i think on how to get it working.

Hope someone has an idea

I was hoping someone had an idea. Thanks for reading this anyway

Well i figured it out. On unix there is an Auth-file and in that file you also have to enter the servername. If this is incorrect the authentication failes. With windows windows you don't have this problem so that's why it took so long for me to figure it out.

Everybody thanks for thinking with me.
