Connect two computers via a modem?

I was asked this by a customer.....it seems he wants to set up two computers for head-to-head gaming in the same house using the modems without using the telephone exchange or an ISP and without getting involved with network cards.Can it be done?

Yes you can use Dial-up Server and Dial-up Networking and then have a TCP/IP game or IPS/SPX if you choose.
