I want to connect to sna server from my application program.
Is it possible to connect by using TCP/IP sockets or do I have to use CPI-C or APPC API to connect?

SNA Server clients connect to SNA Servers using TCP/IP as the connection protocol. However, there is SNA traffic running underneath that. It's actually more complicated than that but that is what is happening at a conceptual level.

If the application that you wish to connect to does not need SNA protocols to connect to it, then you don't need an SNA Server. For instance, DB2 on OS/390 or z/OS (I've only stopped calling it MVS and they changed the name again :)), DB2 could only have been accessed using SNA protocols, but can now be accessed via TCP/IP.

What application do you need to access and what protocols does it support?
