I have problem publishing reports that uses Oracle 10g database as datasource to Crystal Reports Server (CRS) 2008. The CRS and the Oracle database reside in the same SUSE Linux 10 server.

Oracle was installed using system user "oracle", while CRS was installed using local user "crystal". I've already added ORACLE_PATH, etc as in etc/profile.d/oracle.sh to home/crystal/.profile. After doing that, user "crystal" was able to connect and run queries using SQLPlus.

But I still cannot view or run reports published to CRS, it keeps giving error message: "Failed to load database information".

What could be the problem? Thanks for any help.

This may be an issue because of the difference in drivers between Windows (where I assume the report was designed) and Linux.

What type of connection are you using, ODBC, OLEDB, or native Oracle? You want to use native Oracle if at all possible.

I don't know if this will work, but it's worth a try.....

Log in to the CMS, navigate to one of the reports that's having problems and right-click on it. I'm not sure exactly how this menu looks in CRS 2008, but if you see "Database Configuration" or something similar, that's were you want to go. If you don't see that, go to Properties and then look for something like Database Configuration. On that screen, select "Use Custom logon information", select the Oracle data driver, provide the database logon and save. This should set the report to use the Linux-based Oracle data driver.

A computer only does what you actually told it to do - not what you thought you told it to do.
