I have installed Informix SE on Win 2000 and am trying to access it using JDBC (java database connectivity). I have the Informix JDBC driver, jdbc_sql221jc3 and I can't connect to the database. I get the following exception: 'Exception: java.sql.SQLException: com.informix.asf.IfxASFException: Attempt to connect to database server (COMPUTERNAME) failed.' I can configure the database to accept connections using the DBAccess program, but not using JDBC. What I have done, is with the Setnet32 program I have changed the following in the server information: service name = 'informix' , protocolname = 'sesoctcp'. I have editied the hosts file to included the machine I am trying to access the database from, and I have edited the services file to include the 'informix' service name and the port/protocol as 1536/tcp. I have been trying to connect through both the machine which the database is on and another machine on the network.
Is there anything I am missing here that will make this work. I need to use JDBC because I have a java application that will need to connect to the Informix database, and the machine which will have the Informix database must be Win 2000.
I am thinking that the database machine isn't ready to accept connection on the 1536 port, because a netstat shows nothing on that port. Also, I am not even sure if that is the correct port. 1536 appears to be the default, but I don't remember specifing a port in the install process, but I did put 1536 in the services file.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris
