I have a CICS cabinet with 7.1 software and am trying to connect a com port from a PC to the serial port on the CICS. I want to use Remote Utilities which I have a copy.

I have the pin-outs of the serial port on the CICS.
I plan to use a USB to serial connector cable on the PC which will give me either a DB9 or RS232 connection.
I am well versed in soldering and making up cables

What I am looking for...

- wiring diagram with pin locations and labels
- can this be done without a modem in between the CICS and the PC

Any help on this topic is much appreciated.

Serial cable has nothing to do with IRAD on CICS.

Set your IRAD password in config
Call into the systems trunk line with NRU and have reception transfer you to the RAD via F817

Exsmogger...I checked with my Avaya backed Vendor and they say the port is active on the feature card and no software key is required to activate communication through that port.

According to the documentation - installer's guide - for CICS 7.1, it states...

To use the ICSRT tool, each system you want to manage needs to be connected to a RAD (remote access device). In the case of the CICS, an internal remote access device (I-RAD) that is activated with a software key.
The computer you want to use for remote management connects to each RAD in one of three ways:
1. directly, through a serial cable plugged into the RAD

So the CICS has an internal IRAD which basically is a modem, I am trying to connect that modem via a cable to a COM port on a PC and use the software Remote Utilities. They both should talk to each other with no problem...I hope.

If anyone has any info on the cable pinouts for the CICS and the PC com port, please share.

Thanks to those for have replied so far.

Not so.
And FYI the support for Norstar formely called ITAS is no where near what it used to be, they were all laid off in 2007 to 2009 leaving only 4 or 5 of them who in the end worked from home.

Serial cable connects to the RAD....not IRAD.
As the guide states "for future capabilities" .....which will never happen now.

1 = TxEN (input)
2 = signal GND
3 = TxD (output)
4 = RxD (input)
5 = ----
6 = RxRDY (output)

Good luck!!!!!!!!!
