It should basically be the same as setting it up for POP or Exchange. faq962-4452 has a walk through.

I should say that it should be the same providing you can use Outlook as the client.

isint there another way to send email from sql than trough outlook, i had a problem using outlook with sql server.

the outlook program will haveto be runing so sql can send email and the outlook program will have to be started befor the sql server agent, and that was a problem there where allways some one turning outlook off, so i could never trust the sql to send me email

and problem number 2 is that i am not using exchange on this server but i have a nother server on this local network that is a exchange server, is thera a way to connect sql to that exchange server even if i am not on the same domain

Best regards Hlynur

If the domains are trusted then yes, you can setup the machine to connect to exchange.

You can use xp_smtp_sendmail to send email via smtp, but it won't work for alerts, and job failure messages etc. There is a way to send email with the sp_OA procedures but I've never tried it.
