Hi all,

This is bound to be the dumbest question ever on this forums.....

I have some space on a web host, and have access to sql server database space. I've created a database and added a couple of tables just to have something to try to pull data from. I have done NOTHING else in terms of server administration.

Now I'd like to connect an MS Access 2003 adp to the data on the sql server, but I can't get a connection and I have a feeling there's something I need to do in the server administration to make it ready to accept remote/internet connections.

Is there? Does some type of 'connection string' or something need to be implemented by me on the server end? If so, why wouldn't my host have set that up already?

Eventually, I may move out of this access test project and into something like visual studio, but I just can't get one single connection functioning....

Can anyone help or am I so far off the mark it's not worth it?

Thanks,
T

Hey - ok - this may be a dumb guess - but have you set up an ODBC connection to your SQL Server database?

Hi drTree,

Not a dumb question at all. The answer is no, I don't think so.

I didn't open something like that at my server space with the db management software, but I really didn't know what to do.

Does the connection string I found on my host's site go in there?

Thanks a lot for the help. I really need to get this done...

T

Thanks Doc,

I'll take a look at it!

I managed to get a connection which claims to work (read: tested and passed) in my ODBC connection setup on the server. I also threw in a connection string in the ASP.net area as well, though I'm not sure that's necessary for this particular issue.

Thanks for the link,
T
