I have a 6 gig removable laptop hard drive that I would like to connect to my desk top PC. Is this possible? How would I choose master or slave. No jumpers on the laptop HD.
Thanks

If your laptop drive is just a standard PCMCIA hard drive, then you certainly can do it.

You can buy an adapter (if you don't already have one) that will allow you to hook it up.

Your standard laptop hard drives get their power from the ribbon cable (essentially), so this adapter will allow you to plug in your standard IDE cable as well as power from your power supply. As a result, be very careful that you get pin one on the correct side--otherwise power will flow through to the wrong connection (that means smoke!).

As for master/slave, I usually just hook it up on it's own ribbon so that I don't have to fuss with it, though. In theory, though, your laptop hard drive is already set for master (or single)--so you can try to chain it up with a slave CDROM drive if you like. Worst that it can do is not work!!

I hope that this helps! Mudskipper

How is the converter connected?, which end of the laptop drive should the converters power cord be, left or right?

All that I've connected up to date have had the power to the right when lookin at the connector with the HDA up.
