Connect five 2960 switches together 3

i have 5 new switches (2960s) and i need to set them up with a script and connect all the fiv using the GBic port on each port.

1. How do i go about this?

2. do you have a good script i can use? - i know i have to change ip address, hostname for each switch

3. what will be the config for the Gbic ports?

4. what type of cable do i need to connect Gbic port & how do i link by cascading? type of cascading

5. please give FULL DETAILS of process

Determine what address range and what vlan you want to use for that address range to manage the switches .
Are these being routed anywhere else and what device is doing the routing?
If it is a single address range and vlan then the onlt thing that should be needed on the gbics is to make sure the ports are in the correct vlan "switchport access vlan XX" .
Determine if you are to daisy chain the devices (not recommended or run each one back to the main switch , much easier to troubleshoot in this config.
There is really too much to put here because we don't know how your network is and what features you may or may not want to use. Here is a 2960 link.

Thanks, its only one ip range but 4 vlans, one vlan for each switch (vlan 1-4)each switch will serve a diff dept). No backend or main switch - we want to daisy chain the switches uing the gbic ports.
1. what config will setup the vlans?
2. how do we setup the gbic ports on diff vlans but still pass traffic because we are going to daisy chain

i just want to connect 5 switches together - whether as one virtual switch or otherwise. The best way you think is appropraite.

Set one switch as your core switch, and then make home runs to the other switches. Some do not agree with this, but I would set up VTP with a different domain and password, make 1 a server (the core switch) and the others are just clients. Also, it would be good to make the core your root switch as well by going in to and doing;

spanning-tree vlan <insert vlans on network here> root primary

you can also set up pruning on VTP

vtp domain <insert name>
vtp password <insert here>
vtp pruning

Because you are wanting to do gig connections between your switches, I would also recommend getting a 2960 Gig switches for your core OR a 3560 Gig switch if you want to use a Layer 3 switch to do interVLAN routing.

I would say 3560's---5 vlans all bottlenecked at the router may not be so good---as brian mentioned---bad design!
