Hi all,
I'm not sure if this can be done. Is there a way to take a computer on my network and tie it into the public side of my router? I have extra IP addresses with my ISP, but I'm not sure how to reconfigure the workstations. I'm basically looking to get internet access on this system through the router without it actually being a part of our internal network. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave

Add an inexpensive swith between modem and router.
Connect router to switch.
Connect PC to switch.

If the router supports NAT(Network Address Translation)just configure NAT, check you router's documentation on how to accomplish this. If it's a cisco router you'll need to check the IOS version, however, if it's a broadband router, there's probably a simple gui interface that'll allow you to do it.

Plug a switch into your router then cable your network (whether it be a server, firewall or what ever) into it and all things being well you will still have full access.

Then just plug the PC into the switch too and set up the static ip that you said you have with your ISP. (You just do this in network connections under TCP/IP, basically copy the server settings for Subnet mask, gateway, dns servers etc but make sure you don't duplicate your IP address.)

And away you go. Or did I miss something?

You don't need NAT or anything else because the ISP has provided you with a live ip.

Thanks to everyone. I actually just used a spare hub tied into the switch that the router went into. Plugged in the IP address to the computers and everything seems to be fine.
Thanks again.
