I have a 3com network with a switch 4007 as the core. I'm trying to connect a cisco 3508 that to the 3com 4007 (on a 4 port layer 2 gbic blade) with lx gbics. I reset the 3508 to factory defaults and assigned ip and gateway to it. The one port on the 4007 has a vlan (2 no tagging) and an interface (2) assigned to it. The port is also set at auto negotiation and flow control to rxon. I get green link lights on both the cisco and 3com ports but cannot ping the address of the 3508. Also the 4007 port detail shows numorous rxPackets dropped. I'm missing a simple setting somewhere can anyone help??

Can you post the config of the 3508 on here. I have done a lot of cisco/3com interoperability work and with gig ethernet and have seen no problems.

I wonder if the 3508 only advertises it's management IP address on VLAN 1, that said if both ends have no 802.1q tagging enabled the 4007/9000 will be unaware of the vlan ID mismatch so should not give a fig.

I would anyway set both ends to full duplex.

Check the stats on the inbound port on the 3508, is it receiving the ICMP packets from the Corebuilder but it's replies are not getting through, what happens when you ping from the 3508 to the Corebuilder? What happens when you do a traceroute.

I suspect the dropped received packets on the 4007 indicate a VLAN mismatch or an IP issue.

It was a Vlan mismatch on the Cisco side. It had a bunch of convoluted vlans set up to make the layer 2 switch "Act like" a layer 3 device. I reset the 3508 to factory defaults gave it any ip, mask, and gateway and everthing worked. It even all connected with everthing set to auto. I thought for sure that duplex and flowcontrol would need to be hard set.

Thanks for your Help!
