I need to know if it's possible to connect to sql server 7.0
using only ODBC driver ( without SQL server client installed) and if so how can I do that?

You'll need some sort of client application (Visual FoxPro, Visual Basic, Access, something), plus the good fortune that your Windows installation includes a basic SQL Server driver. Go to Control Panel/ODBC and see if a general MS SQL Server driver is shown.

Dear Fluzzi/Foxdev,

I'm also trying the same. I got the SQL ODBC Driver.

I downloaded and installed mdac_typ.exe from Microsoft Web Site. (ver 2.6)

In ODBC Drivers their is Microsoft SQL ODBC Driver ver 03.80.0194. While testing data source for this driver I'm getting the error message as

Running connectivity tests...

Attempting connection
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][Named Pipes]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.

TESTS FAILED!

That's why while running the software developed in VB using SQL Server as backend I'm getting following error...

"Run Time Error 2147467259[80004005]Invalid Connection String Attribute"

Pls help

Sanjay
