We are looking to buy a BCM 50. We are getting conflicting information on the quotes.

We will be needing 5 analog trunks. We have been quoted the base unit bundle 4x8x2x2 with 8 VM plus an expansion module with either 4x16 or GATM 4.

The confusion is that some of the quotes are including extra analog trunk licenses over the original 4 in the base unit and other quotes have the licenses included in the Media Bay Module.

So the question is do Media bay Modules for expansion include the licensing for the trunks or stations or must those licenses be purchased separately?

You do need an expantion keycode for each expantion but the cards in the expantion do not need keycodes. Check the keycodes in the main there are two types of analog one is trunks/lines and one is internal analog. for fax/modem.

A question though is why 5 analog trunks?

If one of them is for a fax or modem, you would be much better off directly wiring that 1 station without going through the BCM, and using a 4x16 or GATM 4, without the added costs for 1 more trunk.

All 5 trunks will be for voice. I tried to talk them down to 4 so we would not need an expansion unit but they wanted at least 5. Plus they plan on expanding over the next 12 months. So I want the space ready if we need to add more lines.

If you are wanting to use the trunks on the system then all you need is 4 analog trunk keycode and a keycode for the exp module.
You could even get buy using a GATM8 and no analog trunk keycode and only the exp mod keycode.

If they plan on expanding, why not go PRI and give yourself more room with less hassle?

I would prefer to go PRI but they want to keep monthly costs down for now until we get to the break even point. Plus they want to move in in a month. We would be pushing it just to get the system installed in 30 days let alone a PRI.

if u want to use the 12 stns on the main cabinet, u'll need a key code for them also.
