AIX 4.3.3 assumed to be ML 6

All filesets for 4.3.1.0_AIX_ML were found.
All filesets for 4.3.2.0_AIX_ML were found.

All filesets for 4.3.3.0_AIX_ML were found.
Not all filesets for 4330-02_AIX_ML were found.

Not all filesets for 4330-01_AIX_ML were found.
Not all filesets for 4330-06_AIX_ML were found.
Not all filesets for 4330-07_AIX_ML were found.
Not all filesets for 4330-08_AIX_ML were found.
Not all filesets for 4330-09_AIX_ML were found.
Not all filesets for 4330-10_AIX_ML were found.

Any Idea why its like this ?

If I try to apply ML 6 disks I get

#---------------------------------------------------------------------
# No filesets on the media could be used to update the currently
# installed software.
#
# Either the software is already at the same level as on the media, or
# the media contains only filesets which are not currently installed.
#---------------------------------------------------------------------

I am clearly not understanding how to do this - any help appreciated !

hi ,

The reason the above is showed is that when ML were installed if a fileset was not installed becuase it required a pre-req fileset it will show up as Not all
filesets are installed even though instfix -i | grep ML shows ML 10 .

oslevel -r will only show the latest ( ALL filesets ???? were found) from your instfix -i | grep ML command output

So for example if you were loading ML 10 i.e. 200 filesets
and only 199 filesets were loaded and 1 failed because it required a pre-req fileset , ( only installed 199/200 filesets) , instfix will list Not all filesets for ML 10 were found. Oslevel -r will only show the latest ML which had ALL filesets found.

To fix this , you have to either look at smit.log to see which filesets are required/missing or do a preview when loading ML10 and see what filesets it requires.

Thanks for the help

Hi,

The oslevel has an undocumented option -r.
Try the following command:

oslevel -rl 4330-11

This reports all lpp's that are not up to ML11 level.
Replace the 11 by any ML you want to check against.
Then update these specific items.

oslevel -rg 4330-11

produces an overview of all filesets with their current level and the recommended ML level

Have fun

instfix -ciqk 4330-11_AIX_ML | grep ":-:" ==> lists filesets not at ML11
