Our app uses Crystal Reports 11 and a few of our customers are getting "Logon failed" errors when executing reports. We've found that these customers seem to be users who have another app that uses Crystal Reports 8.5. In particular, it's an app called Sis Fin. Doubt anyone has had troubles with this exact app but had to try.

Anyway, does 11 just not work with an install of 8.5? Is that the issue? Or is it specific to who the other app is using 8.5?

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

If the viewer that's being used is the 8.5 viewer, the XI reports can't be viewed. There were significant changes to the underlying format of the .rpt file with version 9, so the 8.5 viewer won't read .rpt files created in 9 and above. However, the XI viewer will read files created in 8.5. So, it becomes a matter of which viewer is installed/being used - this can be especially difficult if you're using the ActiveX viewer which has the same name across all versions.

Yes, both our app, and the app in question use the active X viewier.... I think you have brought up a very valid point. How would one go about implementing multiple versions of the crystal active x viewer on the same box?

I don't think you can - the ActiveX viewer is installed on the local workstation. The most recent version should be used for both apps. I suggest that the users uninstall the ActiveX viewer then log in to your app and load a report to load your more recent version of the viewer before they try to view a report from the other app. They should then be able to see reports from both apps.
