I'm going to end up owning three or four 3600 series routers, at least two 3640s and at least one 3660. They don't have the same version IOS. A possible additional 3640 has 3600 Software (C3640-JK9O3S-M), Version 12.4(5), RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc3).

Will that 12.4 version from the 3640 run on the 3660 router(s)?

Inquiring minds want to know!

TIA,

I would have to doubt it...usually the first clue is if the ios file specifically says something like 3640 or 3660.

But I could be wrong...Cisco site is being weird right now for me so I can't check it out.

Oooh... Didn't notice that. It might be worth picking up a $40 3640 with 12.4 to use to sync up the IOS on the other 3640s. Clean it up and probably sell it for what I paid for it.

Was just able to get onto Cisco's website better today, and it doesn't look like the 3640 and the 3660 use the same code.

Thanks. Sorta changes my view of lab setup. Glad I didn't have a chance to turn the 3661 into an electronic brick.

Bill,

Visit

This is Cisco's Feature Navigator.. You can search by platform (3640/3660) and determine EXACTLY what IOSs they run as well as the featureset of an IOS!
