Confirmation of email to Internet

We need to know when emails sent outside the LAN to the Internet, were read (if at all).
The response request is not good enough as it can be turned off by the recipients.
Has anyone had experience with Egotit which seems to do the trick? I have received emails stating "tracked by egotit" with a link to

I am too inexperienced to try a new product on our groupwise system, and could certainly use a ready made product.
