confirm? acknowledge? on PO order entry

Does anyone know if the "confirm?" and "acknowledge?"
check boxes in PO order enter have any functionality behind them?

I want to use them as a flag to show if our vendors have acknowledged receipt of a purchase order. Can I use one of these fields or is it better to have a user defined field fulfill that function?

The only things these really do is print a yes or no for each on the po header when you print the po, telling the vendor what to do.
