hello everyone
I'm having trouble configuring a server as a router
start, programs, administrative tools, and clicked Routing and remote access

I then updated the dns server in the domain ,clicked on the forwarders tab and checked enabled forwarders
and enterned the external dns server ip address.
and then clicked on do not use excursion.

But the server is not allowing traffic to pass through?

Do you have 2 or more NICS in this server ?? Routering will not work correctly with a single NIC.

The DNS issue is something else. Does the external DNS allow forwarding to your IP address ?/ Just becuase you configured this DNS doesnt mean it will get data, unless the other side is configured to FWD to you.

Good luck.

PS: What type of IP addrs are you using? etc etc..

Give more data here and I will try to offer some advice.

Cheers.

hi, thanks for your help
yes we have two nic's
and the isp has pointers to the ip we put in the forward lookup zone, in other words , the isp has it setup to forward
any other ideas?
again thanks for your help

Enable and configure NAT and if you have set up RRAS correctly it will work... Matt Wray
