I am using SCO Open Server v5.05 and trying to configure UUCP over TCP/IP.
I followed some instructions that I found via the link below:

Although the site I want to send to is defined in my /etc/hosts file and I have no problems pinging the site, the following error appears when I attempt a UUCP transmit:

mchFind called (pswyd)
name (pswyd) not found; return FAIL
name (OTHER) not found; return FAIL
conn(pswyd)
Device Type TCP wanted
Internal caller type TCP
tcpdial host pswyd, port 540
timeout tcpopen
Internal caller type TCP
tcpdial host pswyd, port 540
timeout tcpopen
getto ret -1
Call Failed: NO DEVICES AVAILABLE
exit code 101
Conversation Complete: Status FAILED

Is there something additional I need to do so that a Device can be recognized?

any possibility that either or both 'pswyd' and your SCO box is behind a firewall? You may need to explitly open port 540.

Also, any chance that port is simply in use? I know it's listed as the uucp port in /etc/services, but perhaps some other package grabbed it for it's own uses?

I followed your suggestion and specifyied port 540 in the /usr/lib/uucp/Devices file. That seem to sovle the problem.

Thanks PatW.
