Hello,

I am having a problem making sense of the Oracle docs on how to configure Shared Server Mode.

Can anyone please detail the steps and settings to change a database from Dedicated to Shared Server Mode in Oracle 9i (9.2.0.6) on a Sun Solaris system?

Thanks,

Michael42

sem,

Thanks for the response.

>> I am having a problem making sense of the Oracle docs...

I know it is just me, but the docs on this topic fill in what the parameters are etc. but what they lack is a cohesive set of steps to pull all the theory together.

What is step one...what is step two...etc. :)

I walked through the DBCA GUI tool and was able to place a test system in shared server mode (I think) but this is the other extreme...what did I just do kinda thing.

One thing is for sure...I'll create an FAQ outta this to post here so no one else has to enjoy the docs as much as I. :)

Take Care,

I think that you need only 2 steps:

1. Edit pfile/spfile (I don't know which one you use)
2. Rebounce your instance.

Do you have any specific questions?

Regards, Dima

sem,

Thanks for posting. Sometimes what is obvious to one is not obvious to another...like a thick-head like me. :)

I think I was also making this too hard thinking there had to be changes in all sorts of places (listenor.ora etc.).
