Is it possible to configure a remote SQL Server 2000 for replication via having it registered by its IP address in my Enterprise Manager OR do I need to physically remote in to that server and use it's Enterprise Manager to configure replication?

I need to set it up as a Publisher/Distributor.

You can do everything from one server - set up publishers/distributors/subscribers - no need to use remote servies

why is it then when i try and configure the remote server as a Publisher, I get an error that there is no 'Distributor_Admin' defined at the remote server?

This server is at a separate company from me and my only access to it is for my to register it in my Enterprise Manager via its IP address.

So you're saying I should still be able to configure their server as a Publisher?

what is distributor_admin? sounds like a login or something... that doesn't exist on the publisher...

at end of publisher wizard it begins to create as publisher then throws this error:

"Error 18483: Could not connect to server 'ABC' because 'distributor_admin' is not defined as a remote login at the server."

Keep in mind, I'm running this on a remote SQL server that I have registered in MY Enterprise Manager. Is this message saying I need a 'distributor_admin' on MY server?

I'm really starting to think I need to login to the actual server with the administrator login and does this configuration from there.

Have you created the login "distributor_admin" on the remote server? It's telling you it doesn't exist - you need to create the login.

Somewhere in your configuration, you have specified "distributor_admin" as the login under which the publisher is running.

I'm telling ya, you don't need to login remotely, you can if you want - but you can do all the set up from one machine. You just need to create the login - that's what your error message is telling you.
