Hello,

we just purchased an used Symmetrix 3930 but unfortunately
we aren't able to configure it properly. We intend to
connect the Symmetrix to some Sun hosts running Solaris
2.6, 8, 9 and Linux boxes.

Can anybody provide us with technical documentation about
the Symmetrix hardware and engineering passwords?

Do you know companies in Germany who configure EMC systems?

With best regards
Andreas Schweigstill

this is a quite difficult to answer. Technical documentation are reserved for EMC. Some of us can guide you with the configuration process, but it is not easy.

How many disk drives are in the box? how many and what kind of channel directors you have? FC/SCSI? what is the currect microcode level?

I'm not from Germany, so I don't know that.

god... tek-tips erase post with email addresses!

I wrote, If you need further assistance, write me an email, beacuse this can be very long.

Cheers.

Hi Schweigstill,

Chacalinc is right, there is a lot of action to do !!
which microcode is it ? how many SA / FA do you have ? which protocol on FA ? volume mapped on SA / FA ? masking to do...

Christian

I have a similar system that needs configuring (FA adapters).

Anyone here interested in helping out?

I'm happy to pay, via CDs, cash, or other form of exchange ;-)

Chacalinc,

Just emailed you - please confirm you've received....

Hi warenet,

I receive your email.. I'm working right now in a heavy project, but tomorrow I will email you for more details.

Cheers.

Dear Chris78!

Our Symmetrix is equipped with the following components:
- 256 disks, most are 36GB, about 50 are 50GB
- 12 fibre channel ports
- 8 Escon ports
- 14GB cache (3*4GB, 1*2GB)
- manufactured in 1999
- microcode probably 5265.56.36

We intend to use it as simple RAID volumes. Further
functions like replication are not needed but using
a snapshot facility (Timefinder) would be nice. There
are about five Solaris/SPARC (2.6, 8, 9) and one
Linux/i386 box to be connected. We got some JNI
FCI-1063-EMC Fibre Channel host adapters for the Suns
and are going to buy some Qlogic host adapters for the
Linux box(es) computers.

With best regards
Andreas Schweigstill
