Hello

Can anyone will help by guiding me exact syntax and order
of ifconfig command.

When I want to change anything like ip-address, netmask, broadcast address, I use this command

#ifconfig hme0 plumb
#ifconfig hme0 ip xx.xx.xx.xx
#ifconfig hme0 up

It gets changed but after reboot the old address is restored. I tried different combinations in ifconfig command. finally it worked but now I am confused since I dont know what was the correct command I gave last.

Thanx

Sharad

You need an entry in your /etc/hosts (/etc/inet/hosts) with your node name and ip. Example: -

127.0.0.1 localhost
xx.xx.xx.xx servername loghost

You also need a file called /etc/hostname.hme0 that contains the name of the server.
