Hi guys,

Could anyone help me out by giving the steps needed to configure my database to MTS . I am running the database (ver 8.1.7) in dedicated mode. How do we calculate the number of dispatchers (i.e. how do we calculate connections per dispatcher? supposing that i have around 250 users will one dispatcher do the work ) is it worth shifting to mts for a database which has around 250 users. Although 250 users are connected only 5 to 10 sessions are active at any point of time

another query regarding this is, Is it possible to divert the users connecting to another database in certain cases as and when required or according to ip address

In general, it's normal to use say 10 users per dispatchers depenging on your environment. You must ensure that you have enough memory (LARGE_POOL_SIZE set high enough) such that the largest transactions you expect simultaneous users to use can be accomodated.

Unless you are having memory issues then it's not necessary to use MTS especially considering your small user base and actual concurrent connections. Typically MTS is required for thousands of concurrent connections or where memory issues have arisen.

You can also configure your listener to listen on one port for MTS connections, and listen on another port for dedicated connections. Your clients must however be configured to use this setup.

For more detailed info take a look at the Oracle Network Administration Guide (PDF) available free on Oracle Technet.
