Configuring Mitel phones to work with Cisco 2960 switch

Hello,

I'm currently running into a problem getting our Mitel IP phones to work with a Cisco 2960 switch. This is our first time with Cisco gear as we are an HP shop. We're not doing any VLAN tagging since this will be for a small office. We just want the phones to boot into the default vlan, pull an ip from the DHCP server residing on that vlan and read the scope options to connect to the 3300. This works fine on our HP switches. The problem that we see is that upon boot up, the phone hangs at "DHCP:Discovery". This happens on every port on this switch. If I plug a laptop into those same ports, it pulls an IP just fine.

Seeing that this is our first experience with Cisco gear we were wondering if there was anything specific that we have to do on the switch in order for the Mitel phones to work.

Thanks in advance.

Hi

Nothing specific to Cisco in the environment your describing! It's a simple flat network. You're not trying to advertise CDP for VLAN etc

No offence but have you got a dtatbase on the 3300? If it's a new build have you done a DBMS Save and the dhcp programmed correctly?

Apart from that if the cisco is indeed flat, try putting Portfast on all the ports

If it is getting stuck on DHCP discover, then it cannot communicate with the DHCP server properly.

Are you using the same IP ranges from your HP to your Cisco?

Can you ping the 3300 controller and DHCP server from your Cisco switch?

Not a Cisco guy but since you have done HP implementations before I assume you know what DHCP options you need. May I ask what you are using as the DHCP sever? If your laptop gets an IP then the phone should. The only difference is the phone needs the "Mitel IP Phone" set as an option.

Guys,

Lets not get too complicated to start with

1) If it's a new install with just a CX and a cisco switch on a flat network, there;s nothing to configure as such, just make sure all the DHCP in the 3300 is enabled and programmed first and then go from there.

If you are using the DHCP server from the ICP, you need to do a DMBS save and reboot it in order to enable the DHCP server. I got stuck a while with that.
