Good afternoon Tek-Tipers,

I have a Proliant DL360 G4p and I have connected an Storageworks MSA30 via scsi connection. I boot the server and when I press "F8" it does not take me into the configuration utility to create the LUN's, it only allows me to change the SCSI ID of the SCSI card I installed in order to connect to the MSA30. Can someone please shed some light on how I can configure the storage array. In Windows it only shows some of the drives that are installed on the MSA30 array. Was wondering if there is a HP software that I need to install? I tried searching HP's site and what I found was for iSCSI.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Did you set the array up by booting from the SmartStart CD?

Blister911,

Thank you for the quick response. No I did not, I assume when you say the smart start cd you are referring to the smart start cd that came with the server? I do not have a smart start CD for the MSA30 appliance. I went to the HP site and there is no available downloads for the appliance.

Thanks again,

Yes, use the SmartStart that came with the server. When you boot from it there will be an option to configure the server. I don't remember where it is, exactly, but I think it's under something like Maintain server. There you can choose your array controller and then set up any drives attached to it, including the MSA30.

Blister911,

Ok, I also read that there is a Array Configuration Utility you can download from HP and configure the MSA through Windows. But if I do not find the utility I am going to try what you are recommending.

Thanks for your responses. I will post here what actually worked.

Thanks again,

Yes, you can use the ACU, with the assumption you are able to get the OS installed. When the server is "new" (unconfigured) you need to run the SmartStart CD to configure the System drives before you can get the OS installed.

Good luck.

blister911,

My server is up and running, I just added the MSA30 to it and was wondering how I could configure the array. Just tried to download the ACU and when I click on download I get page can't be displayed. Got to love HP.

Do you have the Proliant Support Pack (PSP) installed? I think its included in there.

Assuming you're running Win 2k3 (32-bit) here is the download for the PSP for the DL360 G4p (2nd download button):

blister911,

Thank you very much, I am downloading it now and I will install. What other tools are included? I was able to download the ACU after several attempts.

Anything the PSP wants to install I would let it.

blister911,

Good afternoon, I installed the ACU and I have rebooted my server but when I run the ACU I only see my embedded scsi controller and not the scsi card that I have attached to the StorageWorks MSA 30. Is there anything special I need to do in order for the ACU to recognize the external storage I attached to the server?

Thanks in advance for all of your help.

Is your external disk connected to a SCSI controller or an Array Controller. You can only use Array Controllers.

Blister911,

I am using an Adaptec SCSI card # 129281-001, I believe it is a SCSI controller. Would you happen to know what the model number of an Array controller?

Thanks again,

Ebouza,
I think all our MSA30 chassis were connected to their associated servers via 6400 array controllers (some 6402 and some 6404). I don't know if there are any newer controllers for it or not.

Forgot to mention, your Adaptec card will not work. It is only a SCSI controller, not an array controller.

Blister911,

Thanks for all your help. Yeah I noticed that my Adaptec card is a SCSI controller. I asked CDW how much for a array controller and the cheapest one is $500.00. That's crazy. Would you happen to know where I can find an array controller that is cheaper then that?

How much memory do the 6400 array controllers come with? Do you think that 64Mb of memory is enough?

Thanks again,

Check with Calhoun. They are a depot. You should be able to find a 6400 controller there a lot cheaper than $500. I'm sure there are other depots out there, I just know we have used Calhoun in the past.
