I have recently installed windows 2000 Professional on my machine, but I am experiencing difficulties.

The problem lies with configuring my hardware. I am unable to adjust any settings such as screen resolution or update any device drivers for my PnP devices.

For example, my system always boots up in 640x480 resolution & 16 bit colour. I am able to set the resolution/color higher while using the system. However, when restarting the system the settings always revert to default.

Similarly, if I try to update drivers for my devices or remove devices from my system, Win2k always reverts to its own drivers and the device always re-appears in device manager.
The Graphics card I am using is the
Voodoo 3000 AGP which Win2k recognises & has its own drivers for.

Another example of my problem relates to my monitor. I have found updated drivers for my monitor, which I have successfully installed. As long as the system is running, it reconises my monitor as an Envision 1770, but again on a reboot or shutdown/restart, it reverts to default monitor.

This is the same for all hardware devices on my system.

It was suggested that the problem could be related to my bios, so I downloaded & upgraded to the latest flash bios for my motherboard, which is a Soyo 6BA+ III. I have a pentium III 500 running.

However, this has not solved my problem & there are no known compatability issues with my Mboard & win2k.
My machine is around 18months old.

Can anyone suggest what I can do? I have setup my bios to auto detect all PnP devices but to no avail.
I have tried several fresh installs & it seems to install fine with no hitches, except the problem I have (attempted) to describe.

Please help?

Thank you in anticipation.

Tom

Try turning the PNP detection off in bios. Worst case scenario you can also turn off the PNP detection service and disable it in W2K, set your devices up, and see if they revert or stick around.

Thanks ShaithisDanoveur I'll give it a try.
